Me: Starting to get a Star Wars prequel vibe from Korra re: previously rare or unique abilities (lightningbending, bloodbending, energybending, metalbending, and tai chi blocking) suddenly being commonplace in the new setting.
Paul: How biased...just because it's anime doesn't mean anything...
Paul: But here, it actually makes sense. For one, unlike the SW prequels, this takes place in the fucking future where techniques have expanded and been taught. There are logical canon reason for some of that bending proliferation.
Paul: Lightning bending, as described in the original series, is firebending using a waterbending technique. As Republic City is the world's most diverse region, with water and firebenders together, it makes a lot sense for that to proliferate.
Paul: Metalbending was part of the entire police force's basic training, because Toph trained them and wanted them to kick ass. Also makes sense.
Paul: Bloodbending kind of makes sense because only one person can do it? Like, I wouldn't say that it has proliferated. But doing it at times other than the full moon = bullshit.
Paul: Total bullshit.
Paul: And the energy bending makes the first season awesome, but how did they get to energybending from bloodbending??? That's complete fucking bullshit, absolutely.
Paul: They could have done that better.
Paul: But yeah seasons 1 and 2 of Korra have good and bad, but 3-4 just rock all through.
Paul: "General Iroh" was retarded.
Paul: Just some fucker who shows up and beats some airplanes.
Me: Dammit Paul, spoilers are my trigger warning.
Me: Only on episode 10.
Me: Didn't Totoro bloodbend in broad daylight in that episode where she found the guy who killed her mom?
Me: It's like the people making this children's cartoon don't even care about canon!
Me: Also hard to get invested in this love triangle knowing that one of the participants turns out to be a lesbian.
Paul: Hahaha

Paul: Korra is my alternate universe lesbian daughter.
Paul: I think she's fucking great.
Me: So far she's gotten her ass kicked a lot more than Aaaaang did, we'll see if your article makes the case for her after I finish the show.
